You will have the opportunity to develop skills that are essential for any future career, including time management, teamwork, communication, and leadership.

A few ways to volunteer

Our volunteers have always been pleased by the opportunities we have presented to them, and it has only been possible through our concerted effort to present them with a wide variety of options that appeal to their tastes, preferences and aspirations.

Warehouse Crew

We constantly looking for people to help us in our warehouse. Moving things, organizing sales, and donation drives are just a sampling of what our warehouse crew does.

Downsizing Crew

We work around our local area to help people downsize. A lot of work goes into making a positive downsizing experience and we need your help to make it successful.

Virtual Crew

These are great opportunities for people, who have difficulties volunteering in-person. They can work from any location, allowing them to participate regardless of their physical limitations.

Some positions are specialized and require particular talents, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as a background check. Other positions only require a desire and willingness to volunteer. In-person volunteers must be at least 18 years and older. Things Matter in-person volunteer opportunities take place during the week between 8:30am and 3:30 pm. Things Matter does not reimburse volunteers for any personal expenses incurred during volunteer projects.

We constantly develop partnerships with Connecticut-based universities to bring students on board and help us with various parts of running a nonprofit organization. These students work in areas like marketing and communications, fundraising, community building, and social media.

We believe that everyone should benefit from opportunities to gain job skills and experience. With that in mind, we are proud to introduce an apprenticeship program run in partnership with Downsize Managers and Workplace through workforce development programs to help people return back to work.

Our Values

We are looking for candidates that are passionate about our vision, who also have a passion for serving others.
We know that we’re stronger together: having a sense of belonging and connection to others is an important part of being a human. We come from different walks of life but we act as one team.
We value accountability, responsibility, trust and respect as foundational pillars of integrity that makes respectful relationship possible.
& socially conscious
Though our circular economy approach, we make it possible for things and household items to be used to their fullest extent as well as make the social impact possible.
We cultivate an environment where everyone can contribute. We provide the trust, support, and resources needed for people to succeed.
